Grotto, Brgy. Gaya-Gaya, San Jose del Monte

Yesterday morning, i thought of going somewhere where I used to go 10 years ago, and the Grotto Shrine is on top of my list. It's a short travel from Marilao to San Jose del Monte, approximately 15-16kms but going there is quite a challenge. From the name itself, del Monte(of the mountain), it sure has a lot of uphills. We took the path from MacActhur Highway to Brgy. Tabing Ilog in Marilao, which also leads to NLEX, cross the bridge across NLEX then just stick to the main road and it will lead to San Jose. We passed by several Barangays, namely: Tabing Ilog, Prenza, Muzon, then the town of San Jose. There's an intersection in San Jose - to left, it will lead you to Sta. Maria, go straight ahead, then it will lead to San Jose town, to right, it will leaf you to Brgy. Gaya-gaya where the Shrine is located. It's about 3-4kms from the intersection and still up and down the hills.

Getting there from our home is quite a challenge for your muscles, but once you get there, the feeling is rewarding. The place is not as well-maintained as before but continues to be a place of pilgrim even if the place is a private property.

Here are some pictures of the Church. It has 2 chapels, one at the ground floor and the other on top. But the chapel on top is closed, though.
